Cyanide fishing whilst free diving or using Hookah gear (diving equipment that uses air supplied through a line from a surface compressor).
Threats: Species sold in the live fish trade are expensive but also come at a high cost to the environment. The most effective method used to catch live fish for this industry involves the use of cyanide or other poisons to stun live fish underwater, easing their capture. These poisons however, degrade the surrounding area, killing both the larvae of many coral reef organisms and coral polyps. The loss of coral polyps is called bleaching and signifies the death of the coral which then leads to problems of ecosystem imbalance and habitat loss.
