Features:
Body, head and pectorals form a greatly depressed disc shape of different sizes. Caudal and anal fins absent. Eyes on the top of the head and mouth on underside. Posses tails which are often whiplike.
   
 
Threats:
Rays are particularly vulnerable to overfishing as the are slow growing and produce few young throughout their lifetime. Some species take up to eight years before they reach sexual maturity. This increases the likelihood of individuals being harvested before they have reproduced, thus reducing the probability of stocks being replenished.
